Meet the Founder

Hello, I’m Suman Bala

Grew up in Kolkata watching her grandmother crochet delicate lace for the family home. At 14, she picked up her first hook and never put it down. The rhythmic stitching became her meditation, her joy, her language.

After graduating with a degree in textile design, Suman worked in the fashion industry for several years before realizing her true calling was to honour traditional handcraft. In 2019, she founded TheCrochetSuman from her small home studio.

What began as a passion project selling at craft fairs became a beloved online brand loved by 2,000+ customers across India. Each piece is still made personally by Suman, ensuring the same love and precision in every stitch.
